You may have noticed a name change of this Substack, I really am just figuring, literally everything out as I go along.
See Your Nature is the name I have given the nude portrait sessions I take of women in Nature. But it’s really an over arching name that alludes to the intersections of all the topics I’m most naturally interested in.
Nature. Beauty. Spirituality. Creativity. Self Expression. Patriarchy. Conservation. Religion. Sensuality. Feminism. Capitalism, Shame and Self Love. I am fascinated by the way they all interact, dance with and become results of one another. I’m fascinated by their connection and how they impact us as humans beings and how they impact mother nature.
The below quote basically sums me up pretty well.
“I’m out here with lanterns, looking for myself.” - Emily Dickinson
I’m curious as to who we actually are, when we are connected to our truth and purpose, outside of conditioning and shame. The idea that our whole world reflects the love we have or don’t have for ourselves is something I ponder and how our relationship with nature can foster this love. The connection between beauty, nature and spirituality is something that I’ll never get tired of discovering - how beautiful light, can knock the wind out of you and fill you up with awe and gratitude in one single breath.
I believe;
When we are connected to nature, we are connected to our body.
When we are connected to our body, we are connected to our intuition.
When we are connected to our intuition, we are connected to our creativity.
When we are connected to our creativity, we are connected to Spirit.
When we are connected to Spirit, we are connected to purpose.
When we are connected to our purpose, we give back and we make a difference.
Nature is the beginning and end of everything.
I read an article recently that stated we NEED 2 hours of nature a week to support us mentally and physically as human beings. When I first read the 2 hours, I thought it was going to say 2 hours a day, and I thought yes - that sounds about right. When I realized it was 2 hours a week I felt sad. How far removed we are from the thing that is most natural to us. How out of sync we are with the seasons and cycles that also exist within us.
A lot of us are out there searching for ourselves. We are searching and it’s noisy. Besides being cancelled on social media, the intention behind this Substack is a place for me to really hear myself. To discover what I think and believe outside of influence and writing is a way I can access this inside of myself. Nature is another access point as well as having deeper and more thoughtful conversation with you.
Eighteen Blue has significant personal meaning, BUT See Your Nature is something that we can get behind. It’s a string of words that can mean many things and they will mean something different to each person. I have a habit of continually starting new things, comfortable in the seed sprouting stage but not sticking with it long enough to allow it to bloom. This choice to change the name to See Your Nature is me choosing to allow it to bloom.
So with all that to say - go get outside today, even if it is just a walk around the block. Breath in that fresh air, say hello to a plant and close your eyes as the light hits your face. What can you hear? What can you smell? What do you feel?
Stay there for a while. The rest can wait.
Thank you for being here.
Love Jessie
